The clock ticked 11:50 pm on December 31st, and I was eagerly waiting to welcome the new year and explore 2020.
The year, 2019 gave me all the happiness, love and blessings and now was it’s time to depart. I was eager to find out what changes will the leap year brings to my life. Though North India was freezing the winters of Bangalore is much more pleasant.
Being new to the place, I had no friends and couldn’t decide to celebrate elsewhere and landed up hosting a party for myself at my cosy place. Then I didn’t know that this 2BHK flat will be the place where I will be locked for so many months. All festivals, parties and occasions will be celebrated only here.
With the beginning of the New year, I started job hunting and growing my small business simultaneously. I didn’t know what was striding towards us and I was specific for my job opportunities turning down several positions.
In January, all my Chinese friends and students went for their Chinese new year when I heard that a virus has emanated in the country from Wuhan. My friends from China kept apprised me about the situation and kept on updating me with videos and photos. Many of them approached me asking for masks availability as there masks were out of stock everywhere. The small MSME’s were in the loss and the owners were worried and tensed. I kept on supporting them mentally when students mentioned me as their “Soul teacher”.
Every morning their day started with authorities arriving at door-step for a temperature check. The first case of CoronaVirus was reported on 30th January in Kerala from a person who returned from Wuhan, China. Soon it spread in other parts of the country.
The team of WHO paid a visit to China and after return WHO tweeted that there is no human to human transmission. Despite the fact that the doctors of China mentioned that human transmission is possible. The entire world did trust the global organisation and relied on the statement.
Meanwhile, in the United States of Colorado and Nebraska reported mysterious drones in the sky.
The movie Parasite won the Oscar in January.
The first day of the year started with bushfires in Australia. Basically, the bushfire started from September 19 till March 20.
As the year started, on 3rd January, the U.S. drone strike killed General Qassem Soleimani raised tension with Iran.
On January 27, an agreement was signed between the government of India, Bodo groups and the Assam government to redraw and rename the BTAD in Assam.
Many applicants put the enrollment on hold as they informed that their banks are closed and they will be in lockdown. I lost all my students who were about to start the new batch. They said that as soon as the virus abolishes will get back to me. By then, the SARS-like virus has already a name and it known as COVID-19.
On 11th February, in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party won the election by securing 62 seats out of 70 at Delhi Legislative Assembly election-2020.
The cocktail of NRC+CAA didn’t go well which ultimately resulted in Delhi riots.
The cause of the riots was hate speech, confrontations, CAA protests, provocations. The riot resulted in the death of 53 people and 200+ injured.
Well, we all know that the royal and golden guest Donald Trump arrived in India on 24 February. The event was addressed as “Namaste Trump”.
I celebrated my birthday without my friends but this time it was special. However, I went for dinner on the date. Meanwhile, my blogs were performing well especially the coronavirus blogs of mine and grabbed the eyeballs of many across the world.
India sealed Chinese borders and ban all flights flying too and from China.
Time flies by, I entered the month of Holi, yes the month of March.
In no time, the virus crossed the borders and spread to the USA, Europe and a few more countries.
India initially successfully managed to rein in Coronavirus spread but all went in vain when on 3rd March, 69 years old Italian spread the virus in Rajasthan.
Most of the MNC’s declared work from home. WHO declared 2019-nCov as a pandemic.
The government was taking all safety measures like temperature check, closed all mass gathering points, religious places, restaurants, pubs and bars, all educational hubs along with tourist places were closed.
India evacuated its citizens from China, Iran, Maldives and other countries.
By 18th of March, 7447 confirmed cases were reported with 239 deaths. Many celebrities and influencers were busy educating people to wear masks and use hand sanitizers. Social media and channels broadcasted educational videos and ads to make people aware of precautions and preventative measures.
Where so much was going through along with the blogs, I was also busy writing my E-novel Nillie and had its own fanbase from India, Egypt, Iran, China and a few more countries. Besides writing I was also giving interviews parallelly and luckily I got selected in multiple companies but I was more excited to clear the round of an MNC which was about to hire me as their marketing manager. They asked me to create an assignment in the final round and submit by 26th March on which my selection will prevail.
I was working day and night, understanding the company, requirements, as the job role was new for me and being experienced in sales the domain was new for me.
On 22nd March, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation and called for 21 days complete lockdown.
We were asked to stay at home, only essential items were available. With the announcement, I went to stock ration from the nearby stores and found people were busy in panic shopping.
After returning from the market, I woke up the whole night to prepare the presentation and was about to send at the EOD.
Early morning, I received mail from the HR where she mentioned that as Government has announced locking we are keeping our hiring on hold till the economic condition improves. I was devastated and shocked but somehow I already knew that this might happen. With this, all other companies froze the hiring, and I was jobless and hopeless where I decided to give blogging a try and find other opportunities in my business.
By 25th March, the world was gasping with the shortage of ventilators, noted personalities pledged and donated to the funds. Health infrastructure, of many countries, broke down. Countries like Italy, France, and entire Europe and the United States, lost the battle against the virus. While most of the people in the world we’re in lockdown situation in China started to get normal. People returned back to their businesses and public place resumed. But that didn’t bring much happiness, for international suppliers from China as they lost many contracts, no buyers were ready to purchase their products.
WHO follows the bigger power?
The world raised questions and criticised WHO over handling the pandemic and taking a long time to declare openly about the virus.
The question was if China found that the virus is humanly transmitted then why didn’t they inform the world beforehand?
By now, the world started speculating, assuming and creating stories about the virus. It was clear by now, that China has emerged as the most powerful country in the UN and has means to silence global institutions.
Over the past few weeks the most pressing matter the government is trying to handle is the migrant crisis that has arisen out of this lockdown. It seems that the government advisory mechanism was caught off guarded over repercussions of this lockdown from the migrant perspective.
To the flocking of thousands of migrants at Delhi-Ghaziabad border, to the staging protest in Surat, Andhra border or at Bandra in Mumbai. People have been protesting to arrange the government for their return to their natives. While the government has been suggesting staying put wherever they are, respective state government have been arranging return of their citizens.
A quick survey of migrant’s shelters reveals the horror. The Delhi police survey report states to Indian Express (April 28), that fans are not working, no power backup, sanitization of toilets rarely done, most migrants want to leave as their families cannot survive, rude behavior of civil staff, pathetic quality of food, no hand wash and sanitizer, foul smells in toilet, water supply in toilets only between 7 to 11am, one soap for bathing and no detergent to was clothes, mosquito bites and so on. If these are the conditions of voluntary camps, don’t even imagine the conditions of quarantine camps where one have no option but to stay.
This lockdown has left the marginal section who barely are lifted out of poverty at the helm of going back to poverty. With no job, no food and no means to send remittances to their family, it is natural that one gets frustrated. The grim pictures of migrants cycling or walking back on foot along with small children thousands of kms paints the reality of this lockdown. Remember, the lives exist out of gated society as well. The truth is government is yet to figure out the assistance of this section, and assistance if received have benefited only few.
Once, these people go back and settle, the MSME’s will be the hardest hit, which are dependent on these workforces. Once stopped, it is no easy job to restart a business. Indian railways have set off across country to bring back home the stranded migrants and estimates that 500 such trains will be needed across 15 days to get the job done. The state of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have to huddle together as coordination with states are the major pain pointed out by the Railways. Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal are also in the line.
Once this exercise is over, the next challenge of the government is to kick start the economy and feed its jobless citizens, in a country where malnutrition is entrenched, especially among children, there is a danger of hunger becoming widespread too. We all have anecdotal evidence that families are going hungry and some are starving too. While you can have food given to you by government, one just cannot give up his dignity and have no job but just food to eat even if given free by the government. A human need is much more than just-food.
Where we read disturbing news of people committing suicide because he wasn’t able to feed his family during lockdown.
On the other hand, jewellers are forced to sell vegetables so that they can survive from the lockdown crisis.
This lockdown has brought in many perspectives that are happening in the world, brings out inherent human nature to the forefront and history will remember every action we as an individual, society or as a country do. Remember, the world will remember this. Our maiming by this virus has brought the finest and ugliest of us.
As the famous proverb goes, a small ant can make the elephant dance to its tune, the same has happened to us and actually we have been doing the same to mother nature as well. Just compare the size of an ant to elephant, virus to human and human to the size of the earth. Still !!!
The demand to hold China responsible for hiding facts and letting the world slip in this precarious situation is growing spearheaded by the US. Australia, Japan and some countries have joined the blame game. West Europe is still cautious due to many factors; however, East Europe is praising China for its help to them. India as a major stakeholder in world politics is as always diplomatic and cautious, a strategy which has worked for it most of the time.
From now on, countries will rally against China to disrupt the world order. We have realized that China under Xi Jinping is too authoritarian and is detrimental to global peace. While it gave the world a pandemic, due to its ruthless regime it was able to control it and now flexing its muscle in the south china sea, while the countries are a busy fighting virus. Same goes with its selling of PPE’s, faulty masks and test kits.
However, I don’t believe this is a society in general in China. Today its clout has helped saved itself from being penalized for such grievous and deliberate mistake and still covered up by WHO itself.
It got Pakistan the emergency bail-out package, and in repayment the very next day Pakistan blocked an area in the Arabian sea to test out anti-ship missile and armament testing, giving India a solid hint through Pakistan that it should not have suggested recasting of WHO.
We are still intrigued by why paradox has happened. West Europe and the US with great public health Infra saw high infection and death, and on the other hand South Asia somehow miraculously escaped the wrath of Virus.
India is a special case, rotting health infra, lack of doctors, not enough money, lack of protective equipment’s and many more and still, we showed the world, on why India’s frugal approach is efficient and effective.
Well, many factors are at play here.
Did universal BCG program help us?
As a population have our bodies developed a better defence against the virus as we are always exposed to the unhygienic situation?
Not sure enough. But what we know is that we implemented lockdown early, we gave priority to human lives rather than economy and we remained steadfast despite a lot of hurdles like religious gathering, attack of doctors and police, communalization and many more.
While the world is fighting for Ventilators, PPE’s, masks, we are doing our best by making some and importing some. Salute to ICMR, which quietly deviated from WHO guidelines and stood grounds on its plan.
The Economy is in shambles, the majority are losers, but some are winners as well. Radhakishan Damani, the owner of Avenue supermart running as D-Mart I believe should be the only winner in this lockdown where he gained from panic buying.
Let’s move from an individual perspective, we saw the Kirana store as the real winner brought to the forefront during these difficult times. E-commerce and supermarkets collapse suggest that slow and steady wins the race, and old is gold!! We will not be surprised to see now that manufacturers shifting gears towards channel programs benefiting these mom and pop stores. Remember, Kirana stores are much more street smart and ingenious, as another channel have too much dependency, be it delivering personal, corporate formulated protocols and supply chain or many more. We definitely will see a lot of behavioural change, government prioritizing public health spending, R&D spending and many more.
If you ever thought the defence sector is going to take a hit after this, you cannot be more wrong. We saw an increase in digital payments in some sectors which traditionally not have had much traction, maybe people will have some apprehension in exchanging cash for time to come.
We saw China’s opportunistic takeover and Gov. of India bringing new laws in FDI policy. If we look closely, everything is intertwined in itself. China increased its stake in HDFC and HDFC in Reliance Capital. Majority of investment in the digital industry can be traced back to one country. Guess who is the majority investor in Paytm?
Geo-politics and economy are intertwined in itself in this globalized world. Let’s analyze this correlation in major economies.
The US wants to maintain its supremacy and by attacking WHO, we know who it is attacking.
China recovered early and hence its economy is back on track, forcing the US to accept the deaths yet not slow down the economy. Japan, Germany, Australia coming together and trying to hold China responsible. India despite being in lockdown mode not leaving any stones unturned to make sure Its adjoining countries do not shift their gears again towards China and also use its soft power. Be it allowing exports of essential medicines like paracetamol and Hydroxichroloquine or donating to Nepal and Bangladesh.
RBI accepting Sri Lankan gov. offer of deposit as bonds. China flexing its muscle in South China sea and threatening Vietnam by allowing illegal fishing of Chinese fisherman backed by its navy in Vietnamese waters because it recently did an exercise with US Navy or making sure Pakistan gets emergency bailout and the very next day Pakistan testing missile and doing gunnery exercise, giving India direct message that it is not happy with India’s proposition in recasting WHO.
India bringing new FDI scrutiny to save itself from opportunistic takeovers yet government deliberately not falling into trap of blame game as it needs help from wherever possible. It remains to be seen how it handles again the 5G war which has again returned due to US and China strife. Major world power rushing to help Africa, not actual help but showdown to grab as much goodwill possible and remove China’s clout. Russia sending in planeloads of the mask and other essentials as a goodwill gesture to the US, and North Korea and Iran using this apt time to fire as many missiles as possible as the world is busy saving themselves.
Bringing forward these perspectives help us see through the prism that how we behaved during these times which will have major ramifications for the time to come.
Recently, I saw the ads of Four more shots, please! again. Last year, my friends did praise about the web-series but I assumed that it might be inspired by Kareena Kapoor’s Veerey Di Wedding and I decided to skip it because I wasn’t interested in watching any show based on feminism which shows how women have all rights to be badass.
This year, as we are in lockdown there is sufficient time to watch shows which varies by our taste.
So I started with Season 1 last Thursday night and finished the last episode of season 2 on Saturday afternoon.
I just loved the web-series. I tell you why?
Review in my way:
I am not going to write here the review for that you can just google it and find many articles and blogs on the same. Mine is a little twisted, I am not here to simply narrate the story but to make you understand why we must watch it. This web series is about four girls and the journey of their life. Why I liked the plot so much is because
All the actors have done justice to their acting.
Hats of to the leading ladies, all the four have justified their given roles and are a perfect fit.
Damini (Sayani Gupta), Umang (Bani J), Anjana (Kirti Kulhari) and Siddhi (Maanvi Gaagro) so the four girls met at a bar a few years back and bonded together.
The beautifully scripted storyline begins with someone’s success to others sorrow and sadness due to personal problems.
It actually shows the bond of friends and how important is it to have real friends in life.
Many of the times, we listen to others and do what pleases us because we trust a stranger more than others and we intentionally like to fall in the trap. Just like Anjana, who believed in someone.
Sidhi’s character shows how the family controls her since childhood and how she deals with body-shaming and finally starts to love herself.
In our society, we girls are grown and adapted the way our family and friends body-shame us, make fun of us. If we do something good, our own family doubt on our capabilities.
In my family, I am being fat-shamed and body-shamed since childhood. In many families, even in-laws mock and body-shame.
One of my cousins mocked at me for having readers and having fans on my page. Where this blog is even liked by Rangita Pritish Nandy and Maanvi Gagroo.
One of my knowns keeps abusing and threatening me when I give my views and opinions related to politics.
Though it was not required the way she gained the confidence, learned self-love and discovers her skills and abilities.
Bani J as Umang is a bisexual and falls in love with Samaira (Lisa Ray).
Umang’s character was actually interesting, it showed how she wanted to live her life with her own individuality. Being a Punjabi village girl she transformed herself, sustained and survived. Though her partner initially refused to admit their relationship later on everything goes well and they head towards marriage.
The one thing, that Umang said, at last, was not to choose a person who keeps career over you and try to mould someone according to own. I fully agree, there must be mutual concern and agreement. A relationship must always be equal in the sense of loving, adjusting, understanding, compromising and sacrificing. I can say that Bani was a real fit for the character.
Damini’s character is about a girl who is a journalist and founder of her company. She has a strong will, striking confidence, responsibility and maturity. Her, life shows different shades related to different topics be it office politics, anti-nationalism, righteousness. She is someone having a strong will-power, writing about and standing by the truth.
The story covers topics like misogyny, inequalities, trolling. It’s actually difficult for girls to survive even in Modern India where there are so many idiots in this world. Even on Facebook, so many people keep messaging, calling continuously unnecessarily from Facebook messenger.
Anjana is a lawyer and excellent at her work, however, her personal life is a total mess and she tries to fix out all the issues with her ex-husband. Trying to equally balance her life.
Being a successful lawyer, even she deals with the misogynistic behaviour of her boss. In my working career, even I have faced the same issue where higher authorities recommended my name for promotion based on my performance, but my immediate boss suggested a male colleague of mine because he could handle it better as he will not have to deal with home responsibilities.
Her character throws life about how difficult it is to raise a child, being a single mother, open relationship, infidelity, adultery.
I just loved her dress sense along with her makeover and lip-shades.
This is a complete entertainment during the lockdown. You can easily complete watching all the episode in just a days time.
Apart from the characters, you will love the editing, story-plot, sudden change of emotions in the storyline.
It’s a complete binge time for girls. You can rejuvenate your girl gangs memories while watching it and miss your friends.
Four more shots is bold, witty, fun to watch, delightful, glamourous, it gives you a message between all the glamour and shines of life.
Cinematography is very good.
While you are sitting at your homes you will be happy to virtually tour Istanbul, Jaipur, Goa and even you will love them to watch walking freely on streets and spending time in bars.
The web-series will remind you of FRIENDS as well. Just the coffee shop turned into a bar.
The series will make you miss your sleeping over at friends place, gossip and sharing.
Make you miss your friends and recollect the memories when they were with you during your wedding.
It will make you miss and encourage to plan a trip after things get normal.
Are you staying all alone in a city for your job and suddenly the country went to lockdown. You cannot go outside, no office, no more hanging out with friends, the whole day you spend your time playing ludo, pubg and watching shows on Netflix, Amazon prime, youtube, Hotstar, feel like you are locked up in a luxurious jail? Some might feel the same loneliness ever with their families, people all around but no-one to sit and relax, share your feelings and express.
Here’s a story:
Shweta after her marriage shifted to another city with her husband. She left her family, friends, the local places, markets, colony, society and vibes from her places which made her feel homely.
She was very excited about her new life. She was ready to explore an entirely different place and diverse culture. With her open heart, she was willing to build her own family and mould herself into a new lifestyle.
Initial days, were like a fairy tale. She arranged and decorated her new flat. Now it was her home, tried enchanting recipes, enjoyed shopping household products and loved to wait for her husband.
Everything was fine but after some time she started to miss her own self. She was a girl who had lots of close friends. A working and independent girl who had a busy lifestyle. A target to achieve and a routine to follow.
From client meetings to office gossips, talking with her colleagues or hanging out with besties she started missing all.
Suddenly, she started to feel lonely and even her husband couldn’t feel the hollowness she is dealing in her life.
A city where she knows the only person. Out of so many faces, she recognises only one. Out of so many locations, she has an apartment where she can sit and look outside. The only view, she looked every day we’re a few buildings and trees from her window.
She was feeling as if she’s trapped in a cell, she wished to be the girl she was earlier. She can open the gates of her cage but don’t know where to fly.
This is life, it’s difficult to adapt and your sacrifices won’t be acknowledged.
Shweta will adapt and get accustomed to this life one day.
This morning, I read that the US commission has raised their concerns over the way India is fighting against Coronavirus.
According to a media report, a government-running hospital in Ahmedabad has separated the infected places on the basis of religion.
On this, official Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs, India blasted out on USCIRF to stop adding religious colour to our national goal of fighting the COVID 19 pandemic.
As if it’s a peremptory commentary on religious freedom in India is not enough, the USCIRF is now spreading misguided reports on the professional medical protocols followed to deal with spread of COVID19 in India. It must stop adding religious colour to our national goal of fighting the pandemic and distract from larger efforts. No segregation is being done in Civil hospitals on the basis of religion, as clarified by the Gujrat Government.
After reading this, I have a few questions in my mind, please answer me:
Aren’t we giving a chance to other countries, to put allegation against us?
Aren’t we responsible to fight discrimination on the basis of religion?
Should not we stop discriminating on the basis of caste and creed?
Forget about this virus, haven’t we been fighting on the basis of religion earlier? This is what we are, we have been fighting for years and while this virus is killing people, no matter their caste, creed or religion.
I am a neutral person, I neither understand politics nor interested in understanding it.
Let’s read what Head of ICMR, Dr Raman GangaKhedkar tried to tell us. I am trying to make you understand on the basis of logical and scientific factors. Not on the basis of religion and politics, let me explain what’s going on, so please read and understand:
Worry is relative phenomena if you ask me the background, the first case was on 27th January today we are exactly two and half months into the outbreak, you know the population density of our country, high level of migration that we have in our country, the proportion of people below the poverty line and staying in slums if you look at the world today, they are extremely worried how India is not showing so many cases.
If you compare our country with Italy, Spain, China at this point they were in the much worse stage. We are trying to flatten the curve. If you compare India with the US, they are economically much stronger than us.
Please understand the government has taken such a brave initiate. Our country is not as economically developed as the US, Europe, China yet more than 2.5 lac people have been tested.
The government immediately shut all businesses because life is more valuable than the economy and money.
Let’s forget about Muslims, aren’t we Hindus discriminate and abuse on the basis of caste, creed and culture? Intact state-wise basis within our own religion?
A Bengali brahmin girl fell in love with a Bihari brahmin boy. Now, read this carefully, this is a real-life story. They tried to convince their parents to earn their blessings and get married. Though the caste is same, religion is also the same now what was the issue :
They are from different states
The neighbouring States having cultural differences
Bihar was a part of Bengal once as Pakistan was a part of India but the same rivalry between the Bihari and Bengali is there.
So it became a continuous process, both the parties by that I mean the boy and the girl vs parents don’t come to the mutual track, they kept on fighting, arguing & convincing.
On the other side, the wind started to blow differently, family politics began, family members started to demean and disrespect each other. They try to break the bond by any possible means be it playing with emotions, character assassination, fabricating lies, mentioning names, body-shaming and so on.
So when both the families fight, many will sit and relax and enjoy the scene, some will take advantage out of it. People start commenting on the same way the US did.
This is how today our India is fighting, let not the rest of the world takes advantage out of it.
What’s wrong with Indians?
Is it so difficult to understand and obey the simple rules?
Team of doctors and health officials were pelted stones in different parts of our country.
Group of Nihangs, chopped off the hand of a police officer.
Recently, in Moradabad, a mob of around 150 people came and started throwing stones over team of doctors, attacked the ambulance and even attacked the cops, damaging the police car and ambulance.
However, 17 attackers have been arrested till now.
Salman Khan message to the nation-Do or Die
Salman Khan’s first interview for COVID-19 was published yesterday. He addressed the nation and raised his concerns.
You can watch the full video on YouTube:
He requested the citizens to stay at home, worship and pray at home.
Do you want to decrease the population of India starting with your own family?
He praised the doctors, bankers and all those who are working every day for us during this lockdown phase just to provide ease and support.
Let’s not fight, let’s not demean, time and again I am requesting the literates and educated mass of our society to get united and fight against Coronavirus, not with Communavirus or communa cancer.
As we know, we all are fighting with the novel Coronavirus and maintaining social distance, actually, this is something to something to wonder about how we will behave.
The coronavirus has taught us to live a simple life, staying at home is not so difficult.
But then, will things get to normal as it was?
The well-known Bollywood movie director Shaujit Sarkar has his own worries. The concern he has actually can change the whole pattern of movies, web-series and all similar kinds. It will not just affect Bollywood but all other movie industries in this world.
